We source over two third of our main materials through waste management companies, without proper policies these single used packaging from fashions brands to food industries are mostly green washing their plastic waste as there isn’t a circular solution in place. We work with local recyclers as our secondary source, otherwise these single use plastics end up in landfills or simply burnt as fuel. Cement companies are burning plastic waste as an alternative fuel, a practice that raises concerns about environmental impact and potential health risks, despite being marketed as a sustainable solution.

On a slightly more intimate collective action and as case studies, we are working with Mandarin Oriental, Kuki Japanese Vegan Restaurant, Sushi Kappo, Camp5, families, friends and through our workshop programs, where we are able to interact directly with the end user and coming face to face at ground level and taking a more realistic Kaizen steps to experiments with possible solutions.

Our most tedious step in the process is indeed washing. Using washing machine is not an option as this method will creates micro plastic and straight into the water ways. Most of our processes is done manually - one bag at a time. We are trying to implement that all waste are clean prior to collection date. Striving for a B corp certification, this pushes us to monitor all of these steps closely to achieve a proper sustainable standard of procedure

Logistic is another very costly part of the process. We try to keep our collection within 30km; however, we are receiving beyond this. Most companies are not willing to bear neither logistic or cleaning within their company budget.

We design our bags to have the least amount of waste and this will limit us to explore certain shapes or sizes that would have been great and tempting. When presented with limitation we have to re-think how our design and all of its off cut and tiny pieces will be use, from here the obvious possibility is our pesta and dot swatches, key card holder, coin pouch, compact wallet pocket and lanyard.
